While improvements are scheduled yet through the middle of this week, families out enjoying the warm spring weekend were excited for the chance to check out new playground equipment being installed at Flandreau City Park.
A crew from American Playground began installing the new equipment this past week. The changes aim to provide a safer and more enjoyable environment for the community’s youth. City officials said that the old equipment out at the park had deteriorated to a point where it was not functioning properly and potentially could pose a safety risk.
The City was able to work with FDC and the Flandreau Park Days Committee to identify a play set and both groups made generous donations to the project. A Wellmark Match Grant was utilized to fully fund the project.“There are a lot of folks around the community who are anxious for the project to be complete,” said Turnquist. “The City hopes that the new equipment will provide a safe space for our community’s youth to be active and enjoy the great space that is our City Park.”
Additional enhancements are planned for later this summer, particularly targeting the adjacent swing sets.
