Flandreau Athletic Hall of Fame adds four new members to Executive Committee

Accepting public’s nominations until March 1st

Posted

At their January 15th meeting, the Flandreau Athletic Hall of Fame added four new members to their Executive  (Selection) Committee; Blake Bergjord, Roxee Johnson, Tonya Pavlis, and Marcia Zephier. They join current members Georgia Adolph, Derek Burshiem, Steve Christensen, Ashley Headrick, Amy Klein, Brock Nelson, Beau Severtson, and Stuart Zephier (Executive Director).
A new Legends category has been added for induction into the local sports hall of fame. Deceased inductees and FIS alumni proving difficult to contact will go into this category, but their awards, if inducted, will still reflect their athletic accomplishments as an Athlete, Coach/Administrator, Contributor/Builder and a Team of Excellence.

The Executive Committee has received 7 nominations from the public to date, all former athletes. The public may continue to nominate candidates for induction before March 1st. Our 2nd Annual Banquet and Induction Ceremony takes place at the Royal River Casino on July 7, 2024. Our nomination form has been available at FHS winter sporting events and can be found on our Facebook page. When you nominate a candidate for the FAHOF, please be thorough and include documentation of athletic accomplishments when possible.
We have a display case for public viewing in the Royal River Casino, filled with plaques for our first Hall of Fame Class of 2023. We continue to add to the wall around the display case with sponsor signage, our logo, etc.
Last year’s first banquet/induction ceremony was a success with over 300 in attendance, who witnessed the induction of 12 Teams of Excellence, 3 Athletes, 3 Coaches and 1 Contributor/Builder, representing the Flandreau Public and Flandreau Indian high schools and the community.
The Executive Committee will be reviewing nominations and selecting the next Hall of Fame class over the next few months. We are also hosting the 1st Annual Hoop Dreamers (FAHOF) Basketball Classic at the FHS gym on February 17, 2024. More on that event later. We plan on hosting several golf tournaments to help defray our costs and we continue to accept donations from businesses and individuals, as well.
