The Flandreau Farmer’s Market is preparing for a change in location this upcoming market season.
After several years of growing the participation of vendors and visitors to the Courthouse venue, organizers have announced they plan to launch the market this summer in the space adjacent to the Moody County Museum. Several other events historically take place nearly every Thursday night during the summer either at or near the Museum. Market organizers hope there is a synergy between the events and it brings more people out to all of them than individually across town.
At that location, visitors can enjoy the Community Band concerts each week, ice cream at The Spot Drive-In next door, and the Museum itself is scheduled to remain open late with fun activities for people of all ages to enjoy for the first time ever this summer. The museum grounds and grassy area on the far east edge of the campus offers vendors the chance to showcase their goods and for visitors to leisurely peruse the offerings.
Thursday evenings are also a big night for ball games at the nearby City Park. Anyone that might come to town for the games from the west would essentially have to drive right by.
Volunteer organizer Jenny Callahan said there are so many talented and creative people in the area, she’s grateful this may give them a better chance to showcase all that they make. Typically there are anywhere from five to ten vendors each week.
She’s hopeful for another year of great product available and countless connections made by patrons as they stop by the event.
“It’s so cool to see people run into each other that haven’t seen each other for a long time. Covid really changed the world of having face-to-face communication, people still don’t get out the way they used to. It’s gotten better, people are going out more and putting it behind them, but it’s fun to see people reconnecting when we can get them out at events like this,” said Callahan.
