Another Looney Days in the books

There was a lot of catching up to do and those in Colman for the 2022 Looney Days celebration tell the Moody County Enterprise this past weekend did not disappoint. The golf course, the parade route, the pool, the Fire Hall, the Community Center, Greg’s Place, and homes and driveways throughout Colman were packed as families and old friends gathered once again to celebrate the small town so many either call home, or say it feels like home because family is there.
“My mom is from Colman and my grandmother lives in town,” Brian LeBrun said, as he, his wife, Kendra, their two boys, and his parents stood alongside the parade route early Saturday morning. “The kids wanted to come.”

The family, from just outside of Dell Rapids, had never been to the parade before. They were all surprised with how long it was, the amount of candy being thrown, and the boys — 9-year-old Jackson especially, loved an old tractor that came through the route redone to drive with the back of the tractor facing the front.
Class reunions that have put off gatherings the past couple of years, gathered this past weekend, thrilled at the chance to finally catch up with old friends. Along with the parade, there was a bake sale, a pork loin feed at the Fire Hall, kids activities downtown after the parade, and lines at all of the food trucks nearby to keep hungry festival-goers fed.
“The community comes together and just has a great time,” said Bardine May. May, also there with her grown children and their young families, has lived in Colman her entire life. “This celebration, it just makes us all feel like a family, really.”
