Parade set for Thursday night

The official kick-off event for the 2017 Moody County Fair is the parade that begins at 6 p.m. in the museum area. The theme for this year’s parade is “If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It!”

Parade entries are judged as they pass by First National Bank and cash awards will be given in the following categories: Best Depicting Theme, Most Beautiful, Most Original, Best Hitch, Best Horse and Rider, Best Youth Entry, Vintage Vehicle, Vintage Tractor, Most Humorous and Judges’ Choice.

The parade route begins at the bottom of the hill just north of the museum, runs down Second Avenue to 12th Street, ending at the Moody County Resource Center.

Line-up begins at 5:30 p.m., and there will be a check-in table at the Moody County Museum corner. Participants are asked to check in for their line-up number.

Parade organizers ask that parade participants have someone drop them off at the parade area and park vehicles at the high school parking lot. Horse riders are asked to do the same to eliminate congestion and parking problems in the parade line-up area.

Parade participants are asked not to throw candy from vehicles, according to the policy of the Flandreau City Council. It is encouraged that participants distribute candy by walkers on the parade route.

For more information or to register a parade entry, call the Moody County Extension Office at 997-2469, stop by the office at 500 First Avenue West in Flandreau or email moody@sdstate.edu.

All parade entries should be received by 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 26th. Entries received after that time will be added to the end of the parade.
