Last year for Dakota 38

Posted

It is a ride that in the coming weeks, locals have learned to expect will make its way through the county. The Dakota 38 + 2 has been hosting horses, their riders and support teams on their way from Lower Brule to Reconciliation Park in Mankato each year since 2005.
The ride is one of remembrance, and is supposed to be one of healing and education about the real story of the Dakota 38 + 2, who were held responsible for deaths in the War of 1862. But after nearly two decades of rides and riders coming in from across the globe, organizers of the ride recently announced that this year marks the last that the Dakota 38 + 2 will officially happen.
When riders will be coming through Moody County, how long they will stay at their regular Flandreau location, what you might do to help host, get involved, or learn more and what some locals with family ties to those executed on December 26th hope has been learned through the annual event, in next week’s edition.
