Will send six runners to State A Cross Country meet

VOLGA – Flandreau Flier cross country qualified six runners out of the Region 2A meet to the Class A meet in Rapid City this weekend.
The top 20 individuals qualified for State. The Region 2A meet was held Wednesday, October 16 at Meadowcreek Golf Course in Volga under windy and cool conditions.
Advancing from Flandreau are Faith Wiese, Calla Wiese, Josie Hamilton and Kiley Westberry for the girls and Brenton Westberry and Logan Kontz for the boys.
The Class A State Meet will be held on Oct. 26 at Hart Ranch Camping Resort in Rapid City.
Editor’s Note: When Coach Brendan Streitz’s girls team won the Big East Conference earlier this month, the title gives the coach his 75th victory in the Flier Cross Country program. He is in his 12th year at Flandreau.

Girls
Flandreau came in fourth as a team with 55 points. Faith Wiese was the top finisher for the Fliers as she came in third with a time of 18:44.00. Calla Wiese came in 14th (20:59.10) and Josie Hamilton came in 18th (21:37.50). Kiley Westberry finished in 20th (21:48.40). Also running on the Flier team were Tenley LeBrun who came in 24th (22:27.00) and Morgan Sheppard rounded things out for the Fliers, coming in 28th (23:05.50).
Sioux Falls Christian won the team portion with 12 points and the Chargers had the top two finishers in Ellie Maddox (18:26.60) and Sadie Pettengill (18:34.10). They also had fourth and fifth place in Jerica Glasser (18:52.40) and Natalie Smith (19:03.50). West Central finished in second place as a team with 46 points and Sioux Valley finished in third with 53 points.

Boys
The Flier boys finished in fourth place with 83 points. Brenton Westberry led Flandreau as he came in 15th with a time of 18:32.80 and freshman Logan Kontz came in 18th (18:39.50). Other runners were Nathaniel Hobbie in 26th (19:23.20), Sam Schmidt and Wyatt Kontz finished 31st (19:50.70) and 32nd (19:51.10), respectively and Daniel Hobbie came in 34th (20:00.10) to round things out for the Fliers.

The Chargers won the boys team portion as well with 13 points and they had the top three finishers in Levi Vander Leest (16:46.70), Jackson Prins (16:53.80) and Josh Fletcher (17:00.60). West Central finished in second as a team with 40 points and the Cossacks came in third with 71 points.

Colman-Egan
Colman-Egan’s Izzie Lee ran the 4000 meter Region 2B race in a time of 24:13.02. She placed 26th. The top 20 will run at state.
The meet was held at the Lake Region Golf Course near Lake Poinsett.
