Virginia Lou Haman, 86, of Egan, SD, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Dells Nursing and Rehab Center in Dell Rapids, SD.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. Burial in the Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Cemetery.
Virginia Lou Haman was born December 7, 1938 at Wahpeton, ND. She was the oldest of nine children born to Marjorie Irene (Hanson) and Elmer George Naggatz. She grew up in Fairmount, ND. The family moved to Clayton, WI in 1953.
She graduated high school at Clayton, WI in 1956. She was then employed by United Insurance Company in Minneapolis, MN until she married Henry Eugene Haman on January 19, 1957.
They resided in Sioux Falls, SD until 1969. They then moved to a farm near Egan, SD. Virginia and Henry had six children, three boys and three girls.
Virginia (known as “Ginny” by family and close friends), was home caring for her young family. In 1980 she started working for the Riverview Manor as a social worker until she retired in 2012.
Ginny received the Honorary Social Service of the Year Award by the South Dakota Health Care Association in 2008. She served on the Flandreau Indian School Chaplaincy Board. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters’ Association for over 50 years, serving a term as Monitor and Regent of Court of Our Lady of Peace. She taught CCD for nine years and was a member of St. Teresa’s Group of Saint Simon and Jude Altar Society.
She loved her family above all and encouraged their love of music. She was a seamstress, great cook, gardener (canning and freezing produce) and enjoyed playing the piano. She often played the organ for services and programs at the church and at the Riverview Manor.
She and Henry were married for 60 years. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Henry (2017); sons, Michael (infant), Steven (2001); parents; two grandsons, Drew Haman (2002), Bryan Langan (1991); siblings, Norma Jean Naggatz, Garnet Stilp, and Cynthia Knudsen.
Grateful for her life and love were her children: Carrie (Steve) Langan, Worthing, SD, Maggie Smith, Colton, SD, Mary (Eric) Larson, Hudson, WI, John (Tami) Haman, Chester, SD; daughter-in-law, Jerrelyn Haman Cole (Torry), Flandreau, SD; twelve grandchildren: Lacey, Alexis, Chase, Chas, Cody, Marcus, Matthew, Jesselyn, Elizabeth, Troy; (two deceased, Drew and Bryan); ten great-grandchildren: Kaden, Brooks, Eli, Ean, Ezekiel, Edison, baby girl, Athena, Reed, Hannah, Drew, and baby boy.
