Veterans Day 2024

Area veterans, their families, community members, school children and staff were on hand for the annual Veterans Day Program held Monday, Nov. 11 at Flandreau Schools. Bonnie Wade was the speaker and Ben Kulm was the winner of the VFW’s Voice of Democracy essay.

Bridget Flannery represented the Moody Post 3351 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and presented Ben Kulm as the winner of the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest.

As part of the Colman-Egan Veteran's Day program, the 7-12th grade choir performs We Honor You and God Bless The U.S.A. The performances were part of an overall lineup of music, speeches, and thank yous from the students and the community to all current and veteran members of our armed forces. Alex Ustanko and Kadin Thompson performed Taps at the end of the service before a full gymnasium of family, friends, and neighbors. The Color Guard included Sergeant First Class (Retired) John McCorkle of the United States Army Reserve, Technical Sergeant Cody Bowman with the South Dakota Air National Guard, Allen Loehr with the United States Army Reserve, and Airman First Class Weston Miles with the South Dakota Air National Guard.

Video Board presentations were given on area veterans Bob Landis, Todd Keupp and John McCorkle as part of a class for the school.
