The Fliers picked up two wins at their inauguaral home softball tournament and took second place on the day losing only to Sioux Valley in the finals.
The Fliers have a season record of 8-7 and sit in 11th place in the Class B standings.
Hanson
FLANDREAU – The Fliers opened the day against Hanson and came out on top 9-2 in five innings. The Fliers combined for 11 team hits and only struck out four times at the plate.
Nora Hamilton and Jacey Sundermeyer both batted out triples and a single.
They both had two RBI as did Addy Hammer who hit a double in the game. Hamilton scored three runs and Sundermeyer and Sadie Iott scored two.
On the mound, Olivia Peters allowed only two hits, two run and struck out six Beaver batters pitching the full five innings.
Wagner
The Wagner Red Raiders were next up and the Fliers pounded them 23-2 in a four inning affair.
Nora Hamilton pitched and allowed two hits and the two runs.
The Flier bats came alive amassing 17 team hits. Leaders were Hammer with a home run and a pair of singles, Iott with a triple, a double and a single and Autumn Bosin with a double and two singles.
Deuel, April 29
CLEAR LAKE – Hitting was low in the game with the Cardinals garnering five and the Fliers had four in a game where Deuel came out on top, 4-2.
Deuel opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first and then added a run each in the last two innings.
McCook Central/Montrose, May 2
SALEM – Flandreau took another loss this time to McCook Central/Montrose, 7-2 on Friday, May 2.
Heading into the fourth inning, the game was tied at one run. The Fliers scored a run in the top half of the fifth, but the Fighing Cougars answered with four bottom half run and then added two more in the sixth.
Peters started on the mound throwing two innings when Nora Hamilton came in relief for the final four innings. She took the loss by giving up four hits and six runs but struck out six Cougars.
At the plate, the Fliers got seven hits with Hailieanne Schepel batting out two singles. Five other Fliers had a single each.
