The regular Sodbusters 4-H meeting was held on June 9, 2024, at 4pm the meeting took place on the front lawn of Orchard Hills with 15 members present. Vice President Chase Klein called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Clara Shaykett and Tori Fiegen led the 4-H Pledge. The roll call topic was “What was your favorite animal at Pet Day?”. Secretary Terryn Klein read the minutes from the previous meeting. Maddi Bacon motioned to approve the minutes as read and Chloe Price seconded the motion. The Treasurer’s report was given by Jackson Eggers. Sierra Klein motioned to approve the treasurer’s report and Charlie Shaykett seconded the motion.
Old Business: The club took snacks and drinks to the Trent Fire Department on June 3, 2024, as a way of saying “Thank You” for their service. Sierra Klein reported on the event. On the morning of June 2, 2024, the Sodbusters hosted a Rest Stop near Elkton for the Ride Across South Dakota Bike Tour. Chase Klein reported on the event and mentioned the club served about 230 bicyclists. Prior to today’s meeting the club hosted “Pet Day” for the residents of Orchard Hills. Members brought their favorite pets and showed them to the Residents. Clara Shaykett reported on this event.
New Business: The club will meet at the Dell Rapids Fire Department on June 10, 2024, at 6:55pm to say “Thank You” to the members of the Fire Department. The Moody County Fair is July 15-20, 2024. The parade theme is “Havin Fun Outdoors in 2024”. The club discussed how to decorate the float, Cooper Bacon motioned to purchase candy to throw at the parade, Eric Bares seconded the motion. Club members are encouraged to donate items to the lunch stand and help where needed during the fair.
The club will not have a meeting during the month of July but will plan to decorate the parade float on the afternoon of Thursday July 18, 2024, north of the Livestock barn in Flandreau. Maddison Bacon motioned to adjourn the meeting and Julia Eggers seconded the motion. Thank you to the Shaykett family for hosting today’s meeting and coordinating Pet Day.
