Not long after you’ve finished your Thanksgiving holiday meal, the Flandreau Holiday Parade Committee wants you to start thinking about the Christmas season.
The annual Flandreau Holiday Parade is on tap for Saturday, November 30 with the theme “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.”
Deadline for entry is today, November 27 so if you still have an idea, you’d better get it entered and ready. To register your entry, please contact Kim Hansen at 605-864-1720 or kimberhansen@hotmail.com by today (Wednesday).
Several entries have committed to being in the parade, but there’s always room for more.
There will be awards for the best Family, Group, Business and Judge’s Choice. Judging those entries will be Kim Amdahl, Deb Johanson and Vicki Solem.

Many businesses and organizations will be open and have treats for parade watchers. So far there will be candy canes, cider, hot chocolate and cookies at the parade.
The Parade Marshal chosen is Leetha Petersen, a former dispatcher with the Moody County Sheriff’s Department.
The parade line ups are south of the Moody County Courthouse at 5:30 p.m. Entries will take off from there and head west to Center Street, north two blocks to Second Avenue and then east to Prairie Street where they head south and go back to the courthouse.
If you’re not in the actual parade and are out to watch it, search for and find six Grinches along the parade route. The committee will hide six cut out Grinches in or near businesses on Monday.
Folks need to find them, use their phones and take photos of all of them and then post the photos to the committee’s Facebook page (Flandreau Holiday Parade). There are prizes for the first 11 people to do so.
After the parade, the Lighting Ceremony will brighten up the Moody County Courthouse lawns. Be sure to come over there and see the beautiful displays and hard work the volunteers on the lighting committee have done.
There is also still time to drop off “Letters to Santa.” Pick up a form at Maynard’s Food Center, Frist National Bank, First Savings Bank, River’s Edge Cooperative and Lewis Drug Store, all in Flandreau.
Letters need to be put in Santa’s Mailbox (in the little park on main street) by December 10 so the jolly old fella has time to read them.
