Crews worked over the past couple of weeks to replace an aging roof on the back portion of the Flandreau Post Office. Postmaster Emman Bamba said that the work is part of routine maintenance and that there were no imminent issues, the roof had simply well exhausted its typical lifespan — nearly 20 years longer than expected. The hope is that the replacement of the roof, along with other planned updates to the front sidewalk, stairwell, and ramp will eliminate any near-future problems for the historical structure. The Post Office in downtown Flandreau was built in 1938. If you’ve never been into the building itself, there is a beautiful mural inside the main lobby worth stopping in for, done by artist Matthew Ziegler in 1940, titled, “Wheat in the Shock.”
