Programs set Monday to honor our Veterans

Posted

Veterans Day will be observed in both county schools next Monday, November 11.
Colman-Egan and Flandreau Public will both host programs to honor U.S. veterans who have served our country. Everyone is welcome to attend either program.

Flandreau
To begin the day, all veterans are invited to a breakfast of croissants, fruit, coffee and juice from 8 to 9 a.m. in the high school lunchroom.
At 9 a.m, the program will be held in the gymnasium. Veterans are asked to please sit in the front row chairs.
Music will be provided by students of Mrs. Malerie Yeaton and Mrs. Nancy Kelm and will include choirs from the elementary, middle and high school and the band students of Mr. Patrick Weight.
The scheduled speaker is Bonnie Wade of Flandreau.
Wade is retired U.S. Army. Most of her school years were spent at Flandreau and then she attended Augustana College from 1982-1984.

In January of 1985, she enlisted in the Army becoming a pharmacy technician and medic. For three years, she was stationed at Stuttgart-Bad Canstatt in West Germany.
Following her discharge, she joined the Army Reserves, 323rd Chemical Company for two and a half years.
Wade is the mother of one daughter, Jessica Blair, and has six grandchildren.
Recently, a form was sent home with elementary students to share with veterans asking for photos of them during their service.
Anyone who was missed and did not get a form, but would like to participate in the photo display, please call the elementary office at 605-997-2780 for a form.
Photos can also be digitally sent to thomas.hill@k12.sd.us and he will add them to the gym’s video board display.
Students who participated in the Voice of Democracy essay, will also read their essays at the Flandreau program.

Colman-Egan

Emcee Carter Schmidt will open the program with the invocation at the Colman-Egan program beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the high school gym.
The color guard will present the colors and the kindergarten class will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
Music throughout the program will be performed by vocal and instrumental students of Mrs. Ronda Palmlund-Olson.
Colman-Egan students Sadie McCorkle, Brynlee Landis and Preston Meyer spoke with three area veterans, John McCorkle, Bob Landis and Todd Keupp, and will give their power point presentations on these interviews.
Colman-Egan 3rd graders will present handmade cards to any veteran attending the program.
A moment of silence, taps and the retiring of the colors will close the program.
