Patricia Sutton, 88, of Flandreau, SD passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at her home surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30AM on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau, SD. Family present visitation will be held from 4:00PM to 7:00PM with a prayer service and rosary beginning at 7:00PM on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
Patricia was born July 7, 1936 to Anton (Tony) Kuhle and Dorothy (Clarke) Kuhle. She and her parents lived on a farm near Egan, SD until 1941 when they moved to Flandreau. She attended Spafford Grade School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1954. She was united in marriage on October 16, 1954 to Duane (Bud) Sutton. Duane joined the Auction, Real Estate, Insurance and Farm Mgmt. business with her father. Duane and Pat lived in Flandreau for three years following marriage and then decided to move to a farm on the west edge of Flandreau. They raised their six children on the farm. They supported their children’s involvement in all school activities, the 4-H livestock and homemaking programs as leaders and members of the Cloverleaf group and their involvement in many other community organizations. Pat went to work at the family business, Kuhle Sutton Agency, in 1967 and retired in 2020.
Pat is survived by five children, Chuck (Val) Sutton of Flandreau, SD, Teri (Kevin) Jaspers of Madison, SD, Bill (Lori) Sutton of Sioux Falls, SD, Pam Sutton of Flandreau, Dan (Mary Beth) Sutton of Flandreau, SD, son-in-law Tom Ackerman of Fulda, MN, 15 grandchildren Leandra (John) Ryan, Lynsey (Dave) Whaley, Anthony (Stephanie) Sutton, Ryan Sutton, Jacob (Andrew) Sutton, Jared (Ashley) Sutton, Kelsey (Riley) Robinson, Grant (Becky) Jaspers, Justin (Ashley) Jaspers, Matt (Brooke) Ackerman, Brooke (Andy) Plotz, Kylie (Mike) Knudson, Tate (Heidi) Sutton, Holist (Mandy) Sutton, Candice Sutton, 41 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, her sisters Donna Flanagan of Sioux Falls, SD and Kathy (Roy) Lindsay of Madison, SD, and two special exchange students Gregor Samson and Jonas Samson of Ahaus, Germany.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband Duane in 1985, daughter Anita Ackerman in 2010, an infant son, her parents (Tony and Dorothy Kuhle), brother-in-law Ralph Flanagan, niece Shelly (Bryan) Hammer, her grandparents, in laws Jim (Catherine “Ahern”) Sutton, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Emmett (Lois) Sutton, many other dear relatives, and her beloved dachshund and companion Titus.
Pat always felt that family was the most important gift in life and her greatest joys were spending time with them by hosting holidays and going to as many of their activities as possible. One of her other greatest joys in life was working in the family business Kuhle-Sutton Agency, retiring at the end of 2020 after working for 53 years with her husband, father, and sons. The interaction she had with business clients and friends she made during this time were always cherished. Pat’s hobbies were entertaining, baking, gardening beautiful flowers in her yard and spending time with friends, especially her dear Thursday night crew who created many laughs and memories.
Pat was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, charter member of Ss Simon and Jude Catholic Daughters, Court of Our Lady of Peace #1708, St Simon and Jude Altar Society, Flandreau Jaycettes, Flandreau High School Booster Club, Red Hats, and Crystal Theatre.
The family has been blessed with wonderful care through Avera Home Hospice, Right at Home Care, and special neighbor, Val Smith.
