Opponents too strong for locals at Entringer Classic

BROOKINGS – The Colman-Egan and Flandreau boys’ basketball teams played in the Entringer Classic in Brookings on Saturday and both teams lost.
The Hawks fell to Sioux Valley 64-57 and the Fliers were beat by Dell Rapids St. Mary 60-43.

Sioux Valley 64, Colman-Egan 57
Sioux Valley outscored the Hawks 22-14 in the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
The Cossacks led 30-24 at halftime. They would stretch the lead to 44-37 at the end of the third and then led by double digits early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks cut the lead to two near the midway point of the fourth but Sioux Valley answered with a 7-0 run and that put the game away.
The Cossacks shot 64.5% from the field and were 9-of-14 from three. Sioux Valley was led by Maverick Nelson who had 18 points and was the game’s Most Valuable Player.

Braden Danzeisen had 15 points. Carter Sapp had eight points and eight rebounds. Brock Christopherson and Brady Hiltunen each had eight points.
The Hawks shot 38.8% from the field and were 7-of-24 from three. Jackson Zwart led the Hawks with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jack Mousel and Jase Mousel each had 15 points. Caden Zwart had seven points.
Sioux Valley had 29 rebounds and Colman-Egan had 17. The Cossacks had 23 turnovers and the Hawks had 12. Sioux Valley was 15-of-20 at the free throw line and Colman-Egan was 12-of-17.
Colman-Egan dropped to 1-2 and hosts Baltic on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Dell Rapids St. Mary 60, Flandreau 43
A strong second half from the Cardinals gave them the win on Saturday. DRSM led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter but then was outscored 11-10 in the second quarter by the Fliers and it was 22-22 at halftime. The Cardinals then outscored the Fliers 38-21 in the second half.

DRSM shot 43.6% from the field and was 7-of-20 from three. The Cardinals were led by Maverick LeBrun who had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Trevon Beckman had 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jake Kopsas had eight points and Trimmier Hanson had seven points.
The Fliers shot 31.9% from the field and were 3-of-17 from three. Luke Sheppard had 12 points and 13 rebounds to lead Flandreau. Kaden Bursheim had 13 points and five rebounds.
DRSM had 37 rebounds and Flandreau had 27. The Cardinals had eight turnovers and the Fliers had 11. DRSM was 5-of-7 at the free throw line and Flandreau was 10-of-10.
Flandreau dropped to 2-2 and plays at Class B No. 1 rated Castlewood on Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.
