BROOKINGS – The Colman-Egan and Flandreau boys’ basketball teams played in the Entringer Classic in Brookings on Saturday and both teams lost.
The Hawks fell to Sioux Valley 64-57 and the Fliers were beat by Dell Rapids St. Mary 60-43.
Sioux Valley 64, Colman-Egan 57
Sioux Valley outscored the Hawks 22-14 in the first quarter and did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
The Cossacks led 30-24 at halftime. They would stretch the lead to 44-37 at the end of the third and then led by double digits early in the fourth quarter. The Hawks cut the lead to two near the midway point of the fourth but Sioux Valley answered with a 7-0 run and that put the game away.
The Cossacks shot 64.5% from the field and were 9-of-14 from three. Sioux Valley was led by Maverick Nelson who had 18 points and was the game’s Most Valuable Player.
Dell Rapids St. Mary 60, Flandreau 43
A strong second half from the Cardinals gave them the win on Saturday. DRSM led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter but then was outscored 11-10 in the second quarter by the Fliers and it was 22-22 at halftime. The Cardinals then outscored the Fliers 38-21 in the second half.
