Officially welcomed home

Posted

The South Dakota Army National Guard held an official Welcome Home ceremony just over a week ago for the 1742nd Transportation Company based out of Flandreau. The event was held on Sunday, Feb 12, at 2:30 p.m. at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
The unit returned late last fall from a year-long federal deployment to Arizona to assist U.S. Customs and Border Patrol with securing the southwest border. The ceremony was delayed as the soldiers returned home in different waves.

The Sgt. Matt Joachims’ and Sgt. Brandon Peters’ families locally said that the ceremony was nice, adding that it finally feels like that chapter in their lives has officially wrapped up as a result. They are just excited now to move forward with their young families.
Speakers included Gov. Kristi Noem, Rep. Dusty Johnson and Maj. Gen. Jeff Marlette, SDNG Adjutant General.
