Kristi Noem will appear before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs this Wednesday as part of her confirmation process to become the next Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
While her nomination has sparked some debate, she is largely expected to be confirmed, and the process is anticipated to move quickly.
Noem, who has served as South Dakota’s governor since 2019 and previously represented the state in Congress, was nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the federal agency responsible for overseeing key national security efforts, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
