In honor of National Poetry Month, the Moody County Resource Center is hosting along with JJ’s Coffee Spot, a night of poetry on April 18th.
“We, the Library, and one of our board members, Jessica Lewis, we’ve been wanting to do it for a few years and we’ve just never had an opportunity schedule-wise and we’re excited to finally host it,” said Resource Center Administrator Erica Rorvik.
She said from the poetry side, there’s an array of poetry, and contrary to what might be popular belief, not all poetry is serious.
“There is a lot of good, funny poetry out there. We hope people will come and read their favorite poetry — and that can be their own work or someone else’s. We’ll also have poetry books available to see if there is something someone might enjoy to read. And then we might throw in, to break things up, some random facts about poetry or a poetry joke. So we hope to create this chill, poetic ambiance and we just want people to really enjoy the evening. I think sometimes people get scared of it because they think it’s so serious and dramatic. It’s not all that way and it’s a great way for anyone to express themselves,” Rorvik added.
The event, geared toward adults only, is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, April 18th. Readings begin at 7pm and refreshments will be available.
