Mahpiya Luta foils Fliers State run

MURDO – No. four seed Mahpiya Luta used 46 percent in three point shooting while holding the 13th seed Fliers to only eight percent to win a SoDak 16 matchup, Thursday, March 6.
The Fliers lost the game, 59-27 to the undefeated Crusaders.
The game was played at Jones County’s Harold Thune Auditorium.
Flandreau was down early. The Crusaders led after one period 17-3 and dumped in 21 points in the second quarter to lead at the half, 38-12.

Both team had even scoring in the third, 11 for Flandreau and 12 for Mahpiya Luta, but Flandreau couldn’t overcome the deficit and lost the fourth quarter 9 to 4.
Flandreau finished with 34 percent field goal shooting to the Crusaders’ 46.
Morgan Sheppard led her Fliers with 10 points and Hannah Krull had eight rebounds, all on defense. Sadie Iott had the only steals for Flandreau making two.
The Fliers had 26 turnovers to the Crusaders’ nine.
The lost ends the season for Flandreau at 15-7. All seven losses were to Class A or Class B teams that qualified for their respective state tourney.
The prep playing career of seniors Josie Hamilton and Sadie Iott also came to a close.
