Joyce Crantz, 84, of Flandreau, SD, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 21, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Flandreau, SD. The family will be present for visitation from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 also at First Presbyterian Church.
Joyce was born on January 11, 1939 in Sisseton, South Dakota to Francis and Rebecca (Flute) Renville. She attended Sisseton Public Schools. After graduation she moved to Los Angeles, California to attend Business School. She then began her banking career with Bank of America and then moved to another bank where she worked for 10 years, she loved her job.
Joyce met her husband Larry in Los Angeles and they lived in Norwalk, CA for 15 years before moving to Flandreau, SD to work at Flandreau Indian School. They both retired in the early 2000’s.
Joyce loved listening to country music and going to country music concerts. She also loved animals, especially, dogs and cats always having pets in the house. Joyce also enjoyed bowling, photography, and genealogy, tracing her family tree she discovered she was a great-granddaughter to Chief Gabriel Renville of the Lake Traverse Reservation.
Joyce was a member of St. Mary’s and Our Blessed Redeemer Episcopal Church in Flandreau, SD.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Larry Crantz; son, Greg Crantz; daughter, Lynn (Jeremy) Duncan, all of Flandreau, SD; brothers, Melvin Renville, Flandreau, SD, and Darrel Renville, Sisseton, SD; and grandchildren, Tyler, Michael, Kaleb, Kelby, and Hunter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Rebecca Renville, siblings, Buster Renville, Magnus Renville, Viola Demarrias, and Ronnie Renville, and granddaughter, Januari Crantz.
