Low visibility, frigid temperatures and icy roadways created travel headaches for those hoping to see family and friends at the beginning of the long holiday weekend. A blizzard warning went into effect early last week and remained in place until, at the time this issue went to print, early Saturday morning, December 24th. Many with family returning home to South Dakota were left stranded in surrounding states as the interstate and other highways remained closed in some areas. Winds as high as 50 miles per hour were reported, blowing around the snow that has recently fallen. Dangerous wind chills compounded the situation taking temperatures to as low as 45 below zero. The wind chill warning was in effect until noon on Saturday. As shown above, Sun Dogs are the result of the low temperatures.
