Area youth spent last week not only learning what it takes to be a Hero through God, but also meeting local Heros throughout the community for the “Hero Hotline” theme at Vacation Bible School.
VBS was held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was a joint effort of many local churches and several volunteers.

Those heroes included members from all Law Enforcement Agencies, Firemen, EMT, Paramedics, Soldiers, Veterans, Medical Providers and Transportation Providers. Each day different types of Heros would spend the day sharing their experiences with youth attending the camp.
Vacation Bible School organizer Malerie Yeaton with many other volunteers planned four days, for the close to 100 children, where each day a different type of Hero would spend the day sharing their experiences with youth attending the camp. The children got to tour the different vehicles used in the profession and ask the Heroes questions.
The students not only took the days to learn, but they also had a mission. They collected new blankets and toys to be given out to children who may be seen at the Avera Medical Center in Flandreau.
The students also learned songs and why it is important to be a Hero in our community. They learned through God how we can all be Heroes. The school ended on Thursday night when the youth performed songs learned and then a free will donation meal was served.
