Helen Marie Johanson, 87, of Colman, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at Riverview Healthcare Center in Flandreau, SD.
Helen Marie Johanson was born September 12, 1936 in Wagner, SD to Adolph and Ella (Crha) Hasek.
She graduated from Ravinia. She then met the love of her life and married Richard A. Johanson on March 20, 1955 in Flandreau, SD. Together they started their journey in Denver, CO and had their only child Rick L. Johanson in 1956. Then moved to Egan, SD in 1962 and moving to Colman, SD in 1977 where they resided permanently.
Helen was a first English-speaking woman of her family from Bohemia. She was proud of her heritage and enjoyed Czech Days in Tabor, SD and those delicious kolaches. She was a home maker whilst being a hard-working woman, with many jobs throughout her life until retirement.
She had a passion for polka, country western, and playing the accordion. Toward the end of her life, she looked forward to outings with family and getting her hair done with Lou Anne.
Helen is survived by her son Rick Johanson of Egan, SD. Her grandchildren Lee (Anne) Johanson, Rachael (Justin) Cease, and Cynthia (Kenny) Johanson. Great- grandchildren; Willow (Cameron), Leeanne, and Leland Johanson. Presley, Pat (Ethan), and Peyton Cease. Mazzy (Julius) Johanson, Elmer, and Samuel Weston. Her precious great-great-granddaughter Anna Marie Loehr.
She was preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Ella Hasek. Her loving husband of 50 years Richard A. Johanson. Brothers Steven, Harry, Bernie Hasek, and niece Jeri Ann.
Services will be private for family and close friends, time and date are pending.
