Hawks split DH with Bridgewater-Emery

COLMAN – The Hawks hosted Bridgewater-Emery in doubleheader play on Tuesday, Jan. 30 and ended in a split decision with the girls’ team defeating the Huskies and boys team taking a loss.
Girls
Hawks 61, Huskies 45
The Hawks jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter led and were never in trouble as they defeated the Huskies 61-45.
It was a group effort as the starting five all contributed to the win in different categories.
Brynlee Landis led all scorers with 20 points and her teammate Kaylee Voelker put in 15 points and made three assists.
Presley Luze added nine points.
On the defensive effort, Landis made three steals. Elaina Rhode brought down nine rebounds and senior Lanie Mousel had eight.
Quinn Culhane led the Huskies with 17 points followed by Oakley Weber with 13.
Boys
Huskies 54, Hawks 49
The Hawks had three players in double digit scoring but it wasn’t enough as Bridgewater-Emery won the non-conference battle 54-49.
Jase Mousel scored 19 and made 10 rebounds as Jackson Zwart had 14 points and Jack Mousel 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Zwart gave away four assists. Carson Voelker made strong contributions off the bench.
The Hawks shot 37 percent from the field and 60 from the charity stripe. They were cold from outside the three-point line making only 3 of 22 attempts for a low 13 percent.
B-E led 10-8 after one quarter, 22-18 at the half and the Hawks led 34-33 heading into the fourth period where the visitors outscored them 21-15.
Ben Weber scored 20 and Camdyn Stoterau scored 15 for B-E. The Huskies made four more turnovers than the Hawks (14 to 10).
