Hawks have busy week on the basketball court

The Colman-Egan Hawks held three doubleheader basketball games last week, one on the road and two at home.
The boys had a tough go playing against two highly ranked Class B teams, Castlewood and DeSmet, but picked up a win over Garretson. The girls took a loss to Garretson but regrouped and defeated the Warriors and the Bulldogs.
Three games are upcoming this week. The teams hosted a doubleheader with Bridgewater-Emery on January 30.
Then on Thursday, the boys travel to Estelline-Hendricks and Friday evening, the girls team heads north to take on the Redhawks. Next Monday, a doubleheader with Baltic will be held in the Colman-Egan gym.

Girls
Garretson 44, Hawks 33
GARRETSON – The Colman-Egan girls’ basketball team dropped to 7-5 on the season as the Hawks fell to Garretson 44-33 on Monday, Jan. 22.
Garretson led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter but the Hawks were able to cut that lead to 22-21 at halftime. The Blue Dragons then had a strong second half as they extended the lead to 32-27 by the end of the third and then outscored the Hawks 12-6 in the final quarter.
Colman-Egan shot 21.6% from the field and was 5-of-21 from three.
The Hawks were led by Kaylee Voelker who had 14 points and four rebounds. Brynlee Landis had six points.
Garretson shot 40.8% from the field and was 2-of-12 from beyond the arc. The Blue Dragons were led by Jordy Williams who had 11 points. Sydney Olson had nine points and seven rebounds. Kylie Christensen had 11 points and three rebounds.
The Blue Dragons won the rebound battle 37-25. The Hawks had 12 turnovers and the Blue Dragons had 14. Colman-Egan was 12-of-19 at the free throw line and Garretson was 2-of-7.

Colman-Egan 39, Castlewood 37
No stats were taken, but the Hawk girls narrowly edged Castlewood, 39-37.

Colman-Egan 46, DeSmet 38
After leading the Bulldogs 15-11 after a quarter, and the game was knotted at 22 at the half, the Hawks dumped in 24 second half points to DeSmet’s 16 to secure the win.
Kaylee Voelker led the Hawks with 16 points. Lanie Mousel had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and Brynlee Landis also added 11 points.
Colman-Egan shot 40 percent from the field and 71 from the line.
Presley Luze had four steals on the defensive side of the game and along with Mousel gave out three assists.
DeSmet’s Hazel Luethmers led all scorers with 19 points as the Bulldogs were held to 27 percent shooting.
Colman-Egan now has a 9-5 record.

Boys
Colman-Egan 68, Garretson 65
No stats were received.

Castlewood 76, Colman-Egan 30
Stats were not taken for this game, but the Class B third rated Warriors were too much for the Hawks as Castlewood won the contest 76-30.

DeSmet 70, Colman-Egan 30
For the second time in a week, the Hawks met up with a highly ranked team (fourth in Class B) and were defeated by the defending state champions from DeSmet, 70-30.
Jase Mousel led the Colman-Egan scoring hitting 19 points and Jackson Zwart made nine. Jack Mousel gave away three assists.
The Hawks could only make 28 percent of their baskets and were 56 percent from the line. Their season record is now 4-6.
Tom Augehenbaugh led the Bulldogs with 20 points as his team shot 57 percent and 50 at the line.
