At Milbank Grandstay Invite
MILBANK – The Flandreau girls cross country team won the Milbank Grandstay Invite held at the Whetstone Creek Golf Course in Milbank on Saturday.
The girls scored 32 points en route to their win. Breckenright/Wahpeton was second with 41 points.
Flier Faith Wiese had no trouble winning the 5000 meter run coming in at 18:07.59, nearly two minutes of ahead of second place runner from Border West, whose time was 19:52.25.
Seventh grader Calla Wiese was sixth with a time of 20:44.26. Josie Hamilton (21:32.31) and Kiley Westberry) 21:36.68) took the 12th and 13th medals. Morgan Sheppard ran a time of 22:06.59 to take 18th.
There were 47 runners in the field.
Flandreau’s boys placed fifth in team standings scoring 75 points. Milbank was first with 29, Montevideo, MN took second with 33 and Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd was third with 70 points.
Madison scored 74 and Great Plains Lutheran, 76 to take the spots surrounding the Fliers.
Brenton Westberry crossed the 5000 meter finish first for the Fliers with a 14th place time of 18:34.92. Wyatt Kontz was 20th (18:56.66).
For the JV teams, a 4,000 meter race was held.
Tenley LeBrun was the first Flier JV runner coming in second with a time of 18:05.63. Trisha Roy was ninth (19:59.54 and Rona Streitz was 11 (20:09.09).
In the boys’ division, Creighton Arnett was 18, 17:03.28 to top the Flier JV squad.
The Fliers also took a few junior high runners to participate in a 3000 meter race. Tayte Joachims was 19th (13:30.57).
Ivy Wegner and Kaylina Ormseth placed 16 an 17th for the Jr. High girls.
At Jesse James
GARRETSON – The Flandreau Fliers and the Colman-Egan Hawks competed at the Jesse James Cross Country Invitational at the River Ridge Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
BOYS
GIRLS
The Fliers finished fourth at the invitational with a team score of 40. Arlington finished in first place with 24 points, followed by Dell Rapids St. Mary’s with 32 points and Baltic with 44 points. Madison finished fifth with 85 points and Tri-Valley finished sixth with 92 points.
Josie Hamilton finished seventh at the invite with a time of 22:39.85. Calle Wiese finished 13th with a time of 23:15.11 and Morgan Sheppard finished 15th with a time of 23:28.54. Hailey Lahr rounded out the team scoring for Flandreau, finishing 29th with a time of 25:36.02.
Colman-Egan’s Izzie Lee also competed at the event, finishing 41st with a time of 29:04.60.
Monday, the Fliers were to be at Lake Region Golf Course near Arlington for their invitational.
