FLANDREAU – Flandreau’s 2023-24 girls basketball was the first team in the history of the school to record a perfect season as they finished last week with a win over Baltic and set their season record at 20-0.
“I think it is probably important to celebrate and acknowledge an undefeated regular season, although that wasn’t our main goal this year,” said Head Coach Megan Severtson.
“A lot of things have to go right to not lose in 20 games, and I’m proud of how the girls have handled the season with poise and confidence. They also appear to be having a lot of fun, which is great to see as their coach.”
Flandreau’s boys also won over the Bulldogs in the double header played Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Both JV teams also defeated the Bulldogs making it a clean sweep on Tuesday evening.
Flandreau 64, Baltic 20
The Fliers opened the game by leading 21-2 at the end of the first quarter and stretched the lead to 42-4 at halftime. Flandreau led 59-10 at the end of the third quarter before Baltic won the fourth quarter 10-5.
Hannah Krull led the Fliers with 15 points while Lily Klein had 11 points and Morgan Sheppard had 10 points.
Flandreau 62, Baltic 52
The Fliers led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 25-24 going into halftime. Baltic extended its lead to 41-33 at the end of the third quarter before Flandreau rallied to out-score the Bulldogs 29-11 in the fourth quarter to come away with the win.
“We played an up and down game through the first three quarters,” said Coach Brendan Sheppard.
“We finally caught fire in the fourth and put up 29 points. Kaden Bursheim came in and gave us a lift in the second half.”
Luke Sheppard had 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists while Burshiem had 12 points. Alfie Henderson and Paul Parsley each added nine points and Parsley gave away four assists.
