FLANDREAU – Both Flier teams were a part of the Flandreau Athletic Hall of Fame Basketball games held Saturday at Flandreau High. The Flier girls won, but the boys’ team lost; both games were against Clark/Willow Lake.

Game scores were:
Girls
Lower Brule 55, FIS 35 • MVP Lael Middletent 23 points
Sisseton 72, Winnebago, NE 43 • MVP Krista Langager 27 points
Flandreau 41, Clark/Willow Lake 40 • MVP Morgan Sheppard 21 points
Boys
Lower Brule 52, Sisseton 36 • MVP Nate Middletent 14 points
Clark/Willow Lake 55, Flandreau 43 • MVP Chris Bevers 17 points

This week the teams play three doubleheader events. Tuesday, they were to be at Deuel, on Friday, they host McCook Central/Montrose and on Saturday they travel to Parker for noon games.

Girls
Clark/Willow Lake outscored the Flier girls basketball team in the first three quarter stops, but the Flandreau girls snuck by to earn a 41-40 Lake Central Conference win.
“Clark-Willow Lake is young, tough team,” said Coach Megan Severtson.
“We dug ourselves into a hole early but found a way before half to close the gap. In the second half, we were able to do something to disrupt their offensive flow.”
Morgan Sheppard scored 21 points, had five rebounds and made five steals for the Flandreau team.
Senior Sadie Iott put in 11 points and made eight rebounds.
Full stats weren’t available by press time.
Brynn Roehrich scored 13 points and Shelby Begeman, nine for the Cyclones.
“This was a big win for our team at this point in the season,” Severtson added whose Fliers have a 8-3 record.
JV girls lost to the Cyclone, 29-19. Aly Schepel scored seven and Hailey Lahr, five points.

Boys
Clark/Willow Lake used 48 percent field goal shooting while holding the Flier boys to 36 percent to win 53-43 in a Lake Central Conference matchup, Saturday.
“(This was the) exact opposite feel of the game Friday against Madison,” noted Coach Brendan Sheppard.
“We struggled to get any shots to fall in the first half and Clark/Willow Lake did a nice job of not letting us get anything inside. We made a defensive switch later in the game that gave us some life late, but we couldn’t make it all the way back.”
The Fliers were down 11-19 after one quarter and then connected on only three second quarter points to go into the locker room down big, 31-14. The third quarter gave the Fliers seven points to the Cyclone’s 13. The offensive effort in the fourth quarter resulted in 22 points for Flandreau and nine for C/WL, but it was too late.
“We made a defensive switch later in the game that gave us some life late, but we couldn’t make it all the way back,” said Sheppard. His team is now 5-4.
Both teams shot 67 percent from the free throw line.
Senior Paul Parsley netted 22 points and Luke Sheppard made 11 to top the Fliers’ scoring.
Chris Bevers scored 17 and Bo Begeman 10 for the Cyclones.
JVers also lost their game by a score of 33-25. Kody Kneebone scored eight points, Alex Poitra, seven and Jadon Eng, six.
