The Fliers were at Volga and Madison last week competing in track and field.
VOLGA – The Fliers attended a small meet at Sioux Valley on May 6 with only a few schools in attendance.
The Flier boys scored 168.5 points for second place behind Sioux Valley and the girls came in third with 135 points. DeSmet won with 198.5 and Sioux Valley was second scoring 185.5.
The Flier boys had six first place finishes which came from five different individuals and a relay foursome.
In the field, Micah Otto won the high jump with a personal record of 6’1” and Luke Sheppard took the triple jump with a leap of 38’ 2.75”.
On the track, Alex Poitra sped to a first place in the 200, Logan Kontz won the distance race in the 3200, Elijah Johnson stepped up and won the 300 meter hurdles and the 4x800 won the opening relay event. Team members were Sam Schmidt, Wyatt Kontz, Daniel Hobbie and Nate Hobbie.
For the girls team, Morgan Sheppard, Kiley Westberry and Faith Wiese were all double gold medal winners.
Sheppard won the 100 meter dash, Westberry the 400 and Wiese the 800. They added Rhegan Sheppard to the mix and won the 4x400 meter relay.
In the longest distance race, senior Josie Hamilton won the 3200.

Dan Barker Relays
MADISON – The Fliers took a crew to the Dan Barker Relays Friday, May 9, at the Dan Beacom Track Complex on the campus of Dakota State University.
The boys team earned a few medals. Top finishes was the 4x800 meter relay placed third with a time of 9:06.22. Members were Wyantt Kontz, Sam Schmidt, Daniel and Nathaniel Hobbie.
Flandreau Indian School’s Amos Rockman placed fourth in the mile at 5:01.38.
The Flier girls did not have any top six finishes.
