SIOUX FALLS – The Flandreau Girls Track and Field team matched their 2024 showing at the State Class A meet last Thursday through Sunday bringing home a seventh place finish in 2025.
Faith Wiese was the top Flier participant earning four medals and Kiley Westberry and Morgan Sheppard both earned three. The Flier girls were unable to win any gold medals.
The Sprint Medley relay team of Ella Hoffman, Morgan Sheppard, Kiley Westberry and Faith Wiese finished second for the highest finish. Wiese also took third in the competitive 3200 meter run. In the highly talented 1600 meter run, the top four finishers all broke the previous state meet record and all finished within three seconds of each other. Wiese was the fourth place finisher. She also finished seventh in the 800 meter run.
The 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter relays teams came in sixth and eighth respectively.
Sioux Falls Christian won the team title with 162 points followed by Custer (90), Lennox (85), Dakota Valley (61), Elk Point-Jefferson (50), Sioux Valley (29) and Flandreau (25).
For the boys, the going was tough with only two place finishers.
Brenton Westberry, a top 400 Class A runner, finished second in the 400 meter dash and Micah Otto, was the eight place finishers in the high jump. Both are senior Fliers.
