Flandreau softball takes fifth in Big East tournament

The Flier softball team claimed fifth place in the Big East Conference tourney held Saturday, May 24 in Beresford to close out regular season play.
Flandreau lost the first game to the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars, 12-3, and then bounced back to win over Parker, 9-8 and defeated Howard 20-8 in the consolation game.

Vs. MCM
The Fliers scored all three runs in the third inning in the 12-3 loss. They had four team hits including triples by Hailieanne Schepel and Rylee Allen.
Olivia Peters took the loss. She three all five innings giving up12 runs off 13 hits.

Vs. Parker
Flandreau rebounded and used a four run final inning to come from behind and win over Parker, 9-8.

Aly Schepel pitched three and a third innings allowing eight runs off six hits. She struck out four. Peters came in the final inning and two-thirds striking out three, walking one and allowed no hits or runs.
The Fliers picked up 10 team hits. Nora Hamilton had a triple and Sadie Iott, a double and a single.

Vs. Howard
In the consolation finals, the Fliers had no trouble with Howard dropping the Tigers 20-8 using a big 10 run first inning to do so.
Iott made the bat hit the ball four of five plate appearances, all singles. Peter had two doubles and hit in three RBI and Makenzie Gregory also batted out a double. Allen hit another triple.
Peters pitched four inning allowing six runs off five hits. Hamilton came in relief for one inning.

Baltic, May 23

BALTIC – The day before, the Fliers bombed the Baltic Bulldogs, 28-11, behind 19 team hits.
The deluge of runs came in the fourth when the Flier earned 19 runs.
Olivia Peters pitched the win hurling the entire five inning game. Peters struck out only two batters and allowed 11 hits.
For the Fliers, several girls had a hot bat. Leading the way were Nora Hamilton with a triple, two doubles and a pair of singles. Sadie Iott wasn’t far behind with three triples and Rylee Allen also belted out a three bagger.
Hamilton drove in seven RBI, Allen, six and Jacey Sundermeyer, five.
