2023-24 Recap: Last year we ended the season wrestling really well with the six we took to regions all placing and taking five to the state tournament.
Top Athletes Lost: Brayden Wiese was an asset for years and a big leader that will be missed.
Key Returning Athletes: Karter Headrick, Justin Klein, Teague Bergjord, Zach Pederson and Gabe Frias are returning letter winners. Three state qualifiers back on the team, Headrick, Bergjord and Pederson. Klein, Frias and Bergjord have received national exposer during the off season.
2024-25 Outlook:
Karter Headrick: Our long-time wrestler and lone senior will be looking at getting on that podium. Karter is unpredictable on what will happen in his match and will always have you on your toes. Karter will also be looking at knocking some school records out with wins and pins.
Justin Klein: This kid is a beast and with his work ethic I see him someone to be reckoned with.
Teague Bergjord: This kid is a scrapper and has put a lot of time in during the off season and looking at making it to state again after a great finish last year.
Zach Pederson: He will be another great asset to the team from Colman-Egan after completing his first year with us and chosen for the alternate spot for state last year.
Gabe Frias: For being a second year wrestler, he is going to turn some heads. He’s put lots of time in off season at national tournaments and just loves the sport and is only a freshman.
Team Strengths & Weaknesses: Strengths - a lot to look forward to with the returners all looking to have a big year and accomplishing some goals. Also, something we haven’t been able to do in years is fill a team and compete in duals so I see us winning a lot of duals along with placing in some tournaments with our power lineup.
Weakness is we have some newcomers; but they’re young so will be learning and taking lumps along the way.
Coaches Comments: We have a great group of kids building this program only losing a boy and girl from last year. There’s a bright future.
The annual Flier Booster Club meet is Saturday starting at 10 a.m. in the Elementary gym. Flandreau then hosts a quadrangular on Tuesday, December 10. First match at 5 p.m.
