Flandreau Fire Department Chislic Feed a Yummy Success

Posted

The first Chislic Feed sponsored by the Flandreau Fire Department personnel was a huge success as shown by the long line which snaked through fire hall and out the door from the opening to around 7:30. Folks didn’t seem to mind the near hour wait to taste either lamb or beef chislic. Food was served continually until around 8:30 but many stayed late and played the games outside or sat and visited. A guess at the attendance was put between 400-450.
“It was a huge learning curve,” said fire fighter Holist Sutton, not knowing if folks would come out. “We ran out of beef twice and had to get and cut more.” They began with 150 pounds of both beef and lamb and served it with garlic toast, toasted on the flattop and donated fries. “The Fire Boot” was sitting out for folks to also donate to and all proceeds there will be given to the Wilson family. The boot is a tradition since 1954 in which fire fighters ask others to donate to help those in need. The Fire Department thanks everyone who came out to enjoy the meal and support them and the Wilson family.
