What a new Fire Station in Flandreau will look like, we will soon know. City Council members this past week listened in an open public forum as firefighters and city residents alike weighed in on the issue.
A vote will have been held Tuesday night of this week, after this issue has gone to print. A full report on the decision, what the new agreed upon station will look like, and reaction will follow in next week’s edition of the Moody County Enterprise.
What is known at this time is that local firefighters would prefer to best steward taxpayer dollars, even if that means a scaled down version of the current design, the most storage areas possible, and a place to house an historic fire engine that currently sits in another building to preserve and honor the history of the Department.
City Council was scheduled to approve a construction contract on February 21 with a final cost for the project yet to be determined. Construction and material costs have fluctuated tremendously leading up to a decision being made. Current funding sources however, include; Contribution from Electric Utility: $500,000; CARES Act Funds: $250,000; General Fund: $125,000; Capital Improvement Funds: $220,453; FSB/RD Financing: $1,550,000.
