Fair weather for County Fair

Posted

The only thing that could have dampened spirits at this past weekend’s Moody County Fair was the rain that fell on Friday, but the storm that passed through just happened to fall during this year’s Mud Volleyball tournament. Spectators enjoyed the rain under the grandstand and under their own umbrellas while soaking up the fun on the volleyball court where the rain drops didn’t matter.
The second annual tournament is something that many hope becomes a staple of the summer festival.
Thursday night’s parade kicked off the celebrations with about 45 entries, typical for a non-election year. Parade-goers were treated under pleasant summer skies to a wide array of parade entries, from the City Band on its traditional semi-bed to each of the 4-H groups with their own float, local businesses, fire departments, police escorts and horse-drawn wagons.

Parade winners were Theme: Happy Youngsters 4-H; Youth Entry: Sodbusters 4-H; Vintage Vehicle, Dan DeVaney; Humorous: Marlin and Anna Utech (shown at right) and Judge’s Choice: Edgewood Assisted Living.
The pork loin feed and City Band concert at the fairgrounds followed and all was held adjacent to the 4-H fair entry barns.
Friday and Saturday also found the 4-H members showing their livestock.
