Doris M. Kirkegaard, passed away on November 5, 2024 at Dell Rapids Nursing and Rehab Center with family and friends by her side.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Flandreau, SD. Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, SD.
Doris was born August 17, 1922 to John and Tressa (Holmstrom) Myers, in Clark County, SD. She received her education in South Elrod School, Henry High School and Watertown Commercial College. She was a secretary in Watertown, in Civil Service at Hill Field, Utah, and worked at the Dakota Iron Store in Sioux Falls until her marriage to Lester Kirkegaard on July 12, 1947. They farmed in Blinsmon and Grovena Townships, in Moody County.
She was a member of Bethania and Messiah Lutheran Churches.
She is survived by her son, Dennis, Sioux Falls and daughter, Margo (Bob) Brandt, Rapid City; three grandsons, Dan (Tricia) Kirkegaard, Cory Foreman (Derika) and Nick Kirkegaard (Barbara); five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several special families who she was a mom and grandparent to: Stuart and Jeanne Benson and family, Alice and Charlie Ryan and family and Connie (David, deceased) Hove and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lester in 2009; her parents; four brothers and four sisters.
