Cossacks win 60-46 over Flier girls

VOLGA – The Sioux Valley girls’ basketball handed the Fliers their fifth loss of the season, 60-46, Friday night at the Cossack Center.
Sioux Valley led 22-16 after the opening quarter. The Cossacks pushed the lead to double digits early in the second quarter and then led 40-30 at halftime. It was a defensive battle in the third and the Fliers cut the lead to 45-38 heading into the third. However, Sioux Valley put the game away in the fourth as they outscored Flandreau 15-8 in the final frame.
The Fliers shot 37% from the field and were 4-of-14 from beyond the arc. Morgan Sheppard had 15 points and six rebounds to lead Flandreau. Sadie Iott had 14 points and five steals, and Hannah Krull had six points and four rebounds.

The Cossacks shot 41% from the field and were 11-of-33 from three. Amari Ward led Sioux Valley with 18 points. Kailey Cradduck had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Liberty Trygstad had 14 points and six assists. Keyra Kruse had a double-double with 10 points and 18 boards.
Sioux Valley had a 33-25 advantage in rebounds. The Cossacks had 12 turnovers and the Fliers had 13. Sioux Valley was 5-of-6 at the free throw line and Flandreau was 8-of-12.
In the JV contest, the Cossack also won, 42-35. Aly Schepel scored 13 and Rona Streitz, 11, for the Fliers.
The Cossacks improved to 12-4. Flandreau dropped to 12-5 and were to host De Smet on Tuesday for the lone contest of the week.
