Changes to Community Center rental agreements

City leaders in Flandreau and Egan have revised rates and policies for renting their respective community centers ahead of the 2025 calendar year.
In Flandreau, the most significant updates include a $250 per hour cleaning fee if city staff must clean after an event and a $500 fine for using fog machines.
City Administrator Cohl Turnquist explained that fog machines are often used inadvertently when party organizers hire a DJ, despite their ban in the community center. The machines set off fire alarms, he said, and although there’s no fire, emergency crews are required to respond, incurring costs for the city and taxpayers.

The rental rate of $150 per event will remain the same.
In Egan, volunteers recently completed updates to the Senior Center, including painting and cleaning, in preparation for another busy year of events.
The hall is a popular venue for both locals and out-of-towners. While there was some discussion about raising rental rates across the board, residents urged the council to keep rates affordable for local residents.
At its December 18 meeting, the council voted to increase rental rates only for nonresidents. Rates will remain $25 for residents and $100 for nonresidents, with a $250 deposit.
