Cardinals win over Cubs; lose to PBR

The Flandreau Cardinals picked up a road win at Salem last Thursday holding off the Cubs’ threat in the last inning, 8-6 but couldn’t hang on Sunday at home against Dell Rapids PBR losing 13-9.

Vs. Salem
SALEM – The Cardinals led 8-5 heading into the final frame. Salem scored one run in their half, but the Cardinals allowed no more runs and picked up the Corn Belt League win.
Several Flandreau players each picked up two hits. Jacob Patterson and Brian McGuire both had doubles. JaColby Anderson had a home run and a single and Noel Burgos had a pair of singles. The team had 12 hits.
The Cardinals used three hurlers in the game. Drew Weber pitched the first four innings and got the win. He allowed one run off three hits. Curt Anderson relieved him in the fifth throwing two and two-thirds innings. The Cubs earned four runs off six hits during Anderson’s tenure on the mound. Burgos close out the game for the final two and a third innings giving up two hits and one run.

The trio combined to strike out 11 Cubs while the Cardinal batters struck out eight times.

FLANDREAU – The Cardinals came out on the short--end of the Corn Belt game with PBR.
Tim Huber and JaColby Anderson both belted out doubles and Jacob Patterson had three hits, all coming as singles. Tison Burggraff had the lone triple for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals had 13 team hits off three PBR pitchers, struck out nine times and walked six.

They led the game heading into the sixth inning, 3-2, went the PBR bats went to work.
On the mound, Bret Severtson opened the game for the Cardinals and wentsix innings. He gave up seven of PBR’s 20 hits and four runs. He was relieved in the seventh inning by Anderson who gave up the another nine runs off 13 hits. They combined for 10 strikeouts and six walks.
The Cardinals are 3-4 on the season and will have a game with the Flandreau Blue Teal Friday in City Park.
