After years of uncertainty about the future of the area around the former Crescent Street Bridge and Flandreau Mill Dam, it appears major developments are set to take shape in 2025.
Tribal leaders confirmed to the Moody County Enterprise that funding has been secured for a new vehicle and pedestrian bridge over the Big Sioux River where the old historic bridge once stood.
Details on the funding amount, the bridge design, and additional projects — including an expansive network of new bike paths across the community — are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Flandreau Santee Sioux leadership plans to meet with city officials and the Dam Revitalization Committee to discuss the next steps for the new bridge connecting downtown Flandreau and the Flandreau Indian School, along with recreational opportunities in surrounding areas.
More on what to watch for in 2025 from the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe in a coming edition.
