Blue Teal end first year of play, 5-16

The Flandreau Blue Teal saw their season come to an end over the weekend as they lost both games in the District 4B Tournament.
Flandreau lost its opening game of the tournament to the Colman A’s 8-1 on Friday and then fell to the Hartford-Humboldt Gamecocks 24-0 on Sunday.

Friday
Colman 8, Flandreau 1
Colman led 2-1 through the first five innings and then outscored Flandreau 6-0 in the final three and a half innings.
The A’s scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning. C Roach walked to lead off the inning but then was thrown out at second on a fielder’s choice from A Fritz T Silliman then hit a double to put two runners on with one out. Fritz scored on a wild pitch and Silliman scored on a sacrifice fly from C Dewitt to make it 2-0.

Flandreau’s lone run of the game came in the fifth. Tristan Peters reached on an error with one out and then scored on a Sam Gassman double to make it 2-1.
The A’s scored one run in the sixth. Roach hit a two-out single and scored on a wild pitch to push the lead back to two heading into the seventh.
Colman then put the game out of reach with five runs in the seventh. Silliman drew a lead-off walk and C Burke followed with a single. C Dewitt then hit an RBI single and I Barker followed with an RBI double to make it 5-1. Dewitt scored on a sacrifice fly from P Clark and C Meyer hit an RBI single to make it 7-1. Colman’s final run of the game came on a ground out from Roach.
Flandreau failed to get a hit in the final two innings and that led to the 8-1 loss. The Blue Teal had six hits in the game. Gassman was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Mason Riley was 3-for-4 and T Christenson was 2-for-4.
Greg Sharping pitched the first six innings for the Blue Teal. He gave up seven earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Kolby Peters pitched one inning and gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout. Tristan Peters pitched the final inning and gave up no runs and no hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Colman had 10 hits. Roach was 3-for-4 and Silliman was 2-for-4. Barker and Dewitt were each 1-for-5. Dewitt had two RBIs and Barker had an RBI. Meyer was 1-for-3 and Burke was 1-for-2.
Roach pitched a complete game for the A’s. He gave up one unearned run on six hits with 17 strikeouts and no walks.

Sunday
Hartford-Humboldt 24, Brookings 0 (5 inn.)
Flandreau had one hit in the game and three baserunners. The Blue Teal had 11 errors and the Gamecocks had 18 hits, which led to the dominating win for Hartford-Humboldt
The Gamecocks scored 16 runs in the second, five runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to give them the win via the 15-run rule.
Kolby Peters had the only hit for the Blue Teal. Riley got the start for Flandreau and pitched one inning. He gave up eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with no walks and no strikeouts. Ethan Hoffman pitched the next inning and a third and gave up 11 unearned runs on four hits with three walks and a strikeout. Kolby Peters pitched the final inning and two thirds and gave up five runs, three earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
