Avis D. Heyduk, age 94

Avis D. (Zwart) Heyduk passed away May 27, 2025 in Brookings, SD.
A Funeral Service will be held for Avis on June 7, 2025 at 11:00am at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings, SD. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00am-11:00am on June 7, 2025. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Avis was born on November 21, 1930 at her home near Winfred, SD to Dick and Stella Faye (McKittrick) Zwart. In 1942, her family moved to a farm near Colman, SD. She graduated from Colman High School in 1948 and after graduation she attended General Beadle College in Madison, SD and went on to teach rural school.
She married Francis (Fritz) Heyduk on May 25, 1949. After their marriage they farmed in the Colman, Flandreau, and Brooking’s areas until moving into Brookings in 1976. Avis worked at the 3M plant in Brookings for 12 years and retired in 1986.
Avis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Brookings and was an active member of the CARE group in church since 2008. She joined the neighbor ladies for coffee the first Saturday of every month and the 3M ladies the first Wednesday of every month for lunch.
Her biggest joy and blessing were having all their grandchildren and great grandchildren living near to her during their growing years.
Avis is survived by her two sons, Tim (Tiffany) Heyduk from Brookings, SD, Chad (Robin) Heyduk from Eufaula, OK, her brother Dennis (Terecia) Zwart from Barnett, WI, sister-in-law Phyllis Zwart and 3 brothers-in-law Edward Heyduk, Bill Geoghegan, and Bill (Ina) Parriott, daughter-in-law Linda Heyduk. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Richard Heyduk; daughter Linda Olson; brothers John and Ben Zwart, sisters; Ruth Spurrell and Janis Geoghegan and one grandchild, Tina.
Avis will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
