Area events planning a focus of recent City meetings

One way to tell that summer is officially here: Flandreau’s newest rodeo, Flandreau Fridays, a likely return of the Dusk to Dawn dance, the Boys and Girls Club Shed Raffle, and more, have been the focus recently of Flandreau City Council meetings.
They haven’t been the entire focus, but the crowds coming in to discuss upcoming events and highlight the significance of each program to the broader area and community, certainly have made the events portion of each meeting — a highlight and offer a reminder that sunny summer days are right around the corner.
A full line-up of events will kick off in 2024 with a new rodeo in town. Bulls and Babes is scheduled for June 1st in the area just south of the new Grizzly Meats Locker on S. Veterans Avenue in Flandreau. Slack kicks off at 10 a.m. with food vendors, boutique vendors and other events happening at the family-friendly showcase throughout the day.
June 6th kicks off the first City Band Concert on the Museum Grounds along with the Farmers Market move to that space.

Flandreau Fridays is scheduled for Friday June 21st, kicking off at 5:00 p.m. in downtown Flandreau.
The Boys and Girls Club Shed Raffle is happening now with the winner being drawn at Flandreau Fridays.
The 4th of July Summerfest at the Museum Grounds takes place on the Fourth of July along with the Flandreau Santee Sioux Fireworks Show.
The Moody County Fair, for the first time in years, will run the same week and weekend as the Flandreau Santee Sioux Wacipi. The Fair kicks off July 17th and runs through the 20th. The Powwow runs July 19th-21st.
More on events happening across the county in next week’s edition of the Moody County Enterprise. If you have something you hope can be included, please email mce6@mcisweb.com or carleenwild@gmail.com.
Also heard at the most recent meeting of the Flandreau City Council;
A discussion between Council and representatives from Moody County about the 2025 Moody County Dispatch Agreement. The agreement had been tabled from the previous meeting and was reopened in order for City officials to better understand the formula used to determine fees for each community. The City is questioning a substantial increase in billing to Flandreau alone. The City and County have agreed to meet to discuss a revision to the formula that was established in 2017.
