Hundreds gathered in downtown Flandreau this past Saturday evening for the annual Holiday Parade and tree lighting at the Moody County Courthouse. There were 30 lit up entries in the parade, from classic cars to horse-drawn wagons, along with local emergency vehicles and businesses. Ahead of the parade making its way down 2nd Avenue, a crowd spent time between businesses that were sharing sweet treats and warm drinks and the small park where a live nativity took place while carolers nearby filled the air with Christmas song. Organizers couldn’t have asked for a better evening as temperatures stay in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s until the sun set. Area businesses report a busy night ahead of the celebrations and children along the parade route were all smiles as there was no shortage of candy being tossed their way throughout the night.
Winners are Humorous-Gene and Peg Taylor family; Family-Pam and Paul VanderVliet; Organization-Flandreau Indian School; Business-Triple J Hay.
