The annual Flandreau Santee Sioux Powwow drew hundreds of attendees this past weekend, with perfect weather setting the stage for a vibrant celebration of Native culture and history.
Held at the Wacipi Grounds on the northern edge of town, the event brought together dancers, drummers, visitors, and locals alike. The event each year offers a unique and colorful display of tradition and unity, with participants wearing what are often, personally-made, intricate regalia and performing to the rhythmic beat of the drums.
The celebration each year locally is open to all and hosted by the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, in an effor to foster a sense of community and pride among all who attend.
