The annual Flandreau Airport Fly-In will not be happening in 2024. Always held on the first Sunday after the Fourth of July, the Fly-In typically showcases unique planes, organizations, and pilots while raising funds for a local non-profit. In the past, Team of Angels hosted the breakfast; this past year, the Moody County Boys and Girls Club was the host organization. However, the non-profit element of the Fly-In was missing this year, and without it, it just doesn’t have the same draw, said Brad Bjerke, a City Councilman and member of the Airport Board.

The court appearance by Joseph Gene Hoek this past Thursday in Moody County was brief and to the point. Hoek, it was announced, has been deemed competent to face the First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Eluding charges against him related to the February 2, 2024 death of Moody County Chief Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok. Five weeks has been set aside for the trial which is set to begin on April 21, 2025.
