SIOUX FALLS – Flandreau’s Hunter Witte (106 pounds) and Chase Reed (220) both went 1-2 at the Class B State Wrestling Tournament at the PREMIER Center.
Witte fell 6-2 to Philip Area’s Kipp Cordes in the first round Thursday.
He posted a 9-1 major decision over Deuel’s Jaxon Quail in the first round of consolation before getting injured in the second round on Friday.

Reed dropped a 4-3 decision to Hot Springs’ Marcus Harkless in the first round.
He pinned Faulkton Area’s Teigen Hadrick in 2:32 but was pinned in 3:52 by Winner Area’s Preston Norrid.
“I am extremely proud of how both our young men wrestled. Both had tough first round matches that we had a chance to win late in both matches,” said Coach Derek Genzlinger.
“Both guys getting their first state tournament win was great. I am very grateful for all the hard work and dedication Hunter has given this program, and he leaves being a 3 time state qualifier. He is someone we could always count on in duals and tournaments to score points for us and to compete at a high level.”
“Chase is probably the hardest worker on our team and his growth this year has been amazing, and it comes from all his work in the weight room. This will not be his last state tournament and if he continues to work as hard as he has it could be the only one he doesn’t place in. The sky is the limit for him,” he concluded.
