Water close to even across dam

Posted

The Flandreau Dam was flowing close to level across the top of the dam. This unique “ripple” is a familiar sight when the water is nearly level at the dam. The waves are a very popular scene with large numbers of spectators coming to witness the event and to take pictures of the high water.

The photo at left was taken at the Flandreau Dam a mere week before the unique “ripple” photo was taking place. The spring storm was responsible for dumping 11” of snow in Flandreau but deposited a considerably deeper moisture laden layer of the white stuff north of our area. All of that melting snow must make its way through our area.
