Ward Road Bridge remains delayed

County commissioners learned at their July 6 meeting the Ward Road Bridge may not be let for bids until October.

After a meeting in March, they had hoped the bridge would receive bids mid-May, but the project remains on hold.

Clark Engineering received the completed review from the state on Feb. 28 and began final plans for the project. They submitted their final plans on March 8.

At the meeting on May 2, Highway Superintendent Marc Blum told the commissioners that with waiting on a 404 Permit from the Corps of Engineers, they hoped at that time the project would begin bid letting mid-July.

He said the Ward Road Bridge will be the first large structure bid for 2018 and will hopefully receive a lot of bids for that reason.

If the bid was awarded this month, the contractor might have been able to start work on the bridge in the wintertime.

Commissioners expressed their frustration in waiting on the state to continue the process of getting the bridge repaired and in not fully knowing what is causing the holdup.

In the best case scenario, they will hope the Ward Road Bridge will be let for bids sometime in October.
